Why we built Prism as an AI-native CRM

A CRM was supposed to be the system of record. For most sales teams it became a system of chores. Here is why we started over instead of adding AI to the old model.

The CRM became a place to report, not a place to sell

Every sales leader we spoke with described the same loop. Reps finish a call, then spend time typing what happened into fields nobody reads until forecast day. Managers chase updates. The data is late, thin, and shaped by whoever had time to fill it in.

The problem is not effort. It is design. Traditional CRMs assume a person will be the one who notices what happened and writes it down. That assumption made sense when the only way to capture a conversation was a human with a keyboard. It does not any more.

Adding AI to a form still leaves you with a form

The fastest way to ship "AI" in a CRM is to bolt a summariser onto the notes field or a chat box onto the sidebar. That helps a little, but the record is still empty until someone acts, and the insight still lives outside the system that is meant to hold it.

We wanted the opposite starting point: a system that does the noticing, the researching, and the recording by default, and asks people only for judgement.

What AI-native means for us

For Prism, AI-native is a list of jobs the system owns end to end, not a feature badge:

  • Research every account before anyone asks, with a source behind every claim.
  • Watch for buying signals across the whole territory and turn each one into a next move.
  • Find the buying committee inside each account and rank people by fit.
  • Capture every email, call, and meeting and file it to the right account and deal.
  • Keep stages, next steps, and risks current from what buyers actually said.

People still make the calls that matter

None of this removes the rep. It removes the work around the rep. Deciding which deal to push, how to handle an objection, or when to bring in an executive is still a human call — Prism's job is to make sure that call is made with the full picture, in seconds instead of an afternoon.

That is the line we draw across the product: the system prepares, the seller decides.

Where we are going

Prism already works alongside an existing CRM for larger teams and as the CRM itself for startups. Over the coming posts we will go deeper on each part of that loop — account research, signals, automatic capture, and outreach — and share what we have learned building it.
